Having been rained off on the original day, this was worth waiting for!
A beautiful, sunny and very warm day heralded the re-arranged Trophy day, and despite slight alterations in the playing participants resulting from the change, the programme was set on its way bang on time.
As a result of the very well organised timetable, and everyone’s attention to the Captain’s instructions, the whole day went like clockwork -literally!
The three teams went through the morning and early afternoon with the requisite three matches each, and we saw a lot of very keen and competitive bowling. The winners of each group were then decided, and they went forward to the semi-finals - with Len Williams & Dot Ashforth against Maurice Dunn & Chris Armstrong, and John & Sylvia Griffin against John Wilson and Sheila Monnox.
Both Semis were again keenly contested, but when the bell rang to end them, Len & Dot and John & Sheila emerged to contest the final.
And what a match that turned out to be! Neck and neck up to 11 all, with both pairs bowling very well - then Len and Dot pulled away for a few ends, but John and Sheila hit back with a superb 4 to creep up to only 18- 16 down.
However, with some excellent bowling by Dot and support from Len, they clinched the match at 21 -16.
A super final, and it climaxed a super day.
Well done to Len and Dot - with particular praise to Dot for her excellent support role, and consolation appreciation to John and Sheila for their contribution to a wonderful final.
Well done organisers! Well done everyone!
